The engagement day was set on 28 November 2009 (Saturday). It was held in Batu Kurau, Perak. It was such a long journey. We departed on the 28th morning since the ceremony would be at around 2 o'clock. All together were 13 of us from Kuala Lumpur and 5 from Sabak Bernam. I was very grateful that finally my uncle, auntie, cousin and my friends were willing to accompany our family to the engagement ceremony. Thanx a lot to all of them and we could never repay for you have done for us. It was very meaningful to all of us.
So, on the way to Perak, the journey was smooth and we had no difficulties on our way there. However, we can only plan our programme but only Allah can determine what is best for us. We planned to get there at around 1pm because we still need to get the cake for the gift. However, taking into consideration that we travelled in quite a large number of group, we got there at around 2.30pm and finally reached at the bride-to-be house at around 3pm. We were thankful to them because they understood our situation for being late. Once we got into the house I was very shocked because we only brought 5 gifts as what had been agreed previously and they prepared almost 20 gifts. Last time I only heard stories from my friends. But now, I experienced it myself. It is true that people in rural area are very kind and generous. We've been told that the gifts were given by the bride-to-be 's relatives. Thank you so much!
This was my first time getting involved in engagement ceremony. It was amazing to know that what your culture provides you. Now, I realize what a wonderful culture that we have. The ceremony went smoothly with all the necessaries according to our culture. There were joy and laughter filled in the ceremony. We were very happy since everything went smoothly. The discussion between 2 families went on for almost 1 hour and we had come to a mutual agreement regarding my brother's wedding day. We have more or less about 1 year to prepare for the wedding.
We were very thankful to the bride-to-be family members because they've been such a warm host. They treated us like we are their families. The food that they have prepared was good and the best part was when they gave us lots of durians. It was the best durian I have ever had. Even my friend who resent durian, ate it more than I did. She even ate 'tempoyak' and took back home a few durians. It was amazing to see that even my friend can eat durian now since durian from that part of Perak was beyond any durian that I've tasted before.
Although we were there for only a couple of hours, but we already felt like we were relatives since they treated us with such kindness. I can't wait to go there next year for my brother's wedding day.
We spent a night there in Taiping and once again, they treated us with kindness when they provide us with all things we needed to sleep for the night and early in the morning the provided breakfast for us. I can only hope that we can maintain a good relationship forever.
Here, Mak Aiyu wants to share a few happy moments caught on camera. I hope all of you can share my happiness and perhaps it can help you to prepare for your engagement day or wedding day.
